Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Karl Jakobs of University of Freiburg and member of HiggsTools on his election as spokesman of the ATLAS experiment. He will take over from Dave Charlton in March 2017. Karl Jakobs has been involved in the ATLAS experiment since its inception in 1992. He played a decisive role in the design and the construction of the experiment. He and his team helped develop the detector technologies and built parts of the detectors. In parallel, he has established methods for the detection of the Higgs particle and, together with his group, significantly contributed in the evaluation of the data that provided evidence of the Higgs particle. He led the ATLAS Higgs Working Group convenor from 1997 to 2002 and was ATLAS physics coordinator from 2006 to 2008. In 2015 he received the Stern-Gerlach Medal from the German Physical Society (DPG) for his outstanding contributions to the discovery of the Higgs particle.
